No real hydrilla or grass or anything. Just some moderate to heavy duck weed.

Probably anything. If you're describing actual duckweed then that stuff isn't much of an obstacle, it will just make a mess.

My first choice would be a weedless spoon or single blade spinner. Let it drop down slowly in there.

Next I'd try a worm, weighted just enough to let it sink slowly.

I should have put besides a frog. That's all I've been throwing but I'm not catching a whole lot. Spinner bait is getting immobilized when it passes thru the duck weed in the heavier areas

punch a 3/4 or 1oz jig. if the duckweed is really thick, just yo-yo it. if it's not real thick, cast the jig and swim it back to the boat.
this has been real effective for me this spring.

Sounds more like a gray duck hole than fishing hole.

Thanks guys. I'll try most or all of these. This is a slough that got stocked by a river in the 1,000 year flood event we had this spring. Never had fish to speak of until now. When the wind is strong and pushes the duck week to one side we catch the shot out of them. But in a solid blanket we havnt caught a ton. Thx again

Black and chartreuse H&H swamp frog.

Sorry, just saw you want something besides frog.
If they're not biting on that frog, they're not biting!

any hollow body frog should work. Ribbit if its sparse, but next would be to flip in it, lightest weight possible. If its just duckweed on top you might be able to get in with a 1/4oz or 3/8 oz. Any plastic with no many appendages will do. color depends on water color.
