re: What Caliber Do You Shoot

Point is that a lot of folks buy a magnum caliber and think it translates into ling range accuracy. They will take an off the shelf rifle with a bad trigger and a crap stock, stick shite bases and rings on it with a cheap scope and cheap ammo and think they have a long range rifle. I see it all the time at the range. Guys with 300 winnies shooting 3" groups at a hundred yards and calling it good. Some times they're are right cause it's all they are gonna get when you factor in the bruise on their shoulder and the scope scar on their nose. Point is look more at the big picture and not so much on the round.

And you're right, a guy with a well put together rig chambered in 300 mag (that can shoot it) has got a superior animal. There aren't that many walking the Louisiana deer woods.

Didn't say o wouldn't do it over 400. But the situation would have to be right.

I'm sure some of you boys are surgeons with your mags. I have some magnums and like them, but I think most people are better served with a standard caliber and working their way up.

I'm just razzin a 270 shooter is all Happy to hear you are a great shooter. That is all that counts.

eta: not knocking you. You did the right thing by not taking a shot you were not comfortable with.

They have new bullets coming out that should really help the 270 wsm. IMO the lack of high BC bullets in the past have held it back. Still, it's a great round.
