Yesterday my lab was swimming and running in the woods around our beach house. He came up on the wharf and had these two inch and a half spikes stuck in his neck and side. They were about half an inch inside. I pulled them out with pliers.

Any idea what they are? I'm sure it was a dead animal he was rolling around on. The bottoms of these spikes were slimy so if it was dead it wasn't dead long.

Thanks for your help

Barbs as you said.
As bad as they hurt just scraping on a finger, can't imagine being stabbed by one., or2

He didn't and didn't seem to be in much pain. I didn't hear him yelp. He was pretty calm .

Thanks again

That's cause the toxins were long gone before it started playing with dead fish.
