weekend results thread

Haven't seen one of these in awhile and just thought i would share our snapper fishing weekend results. Weather forecast was blown as the 1' or less was more like 3-4's Saturday morning with the strong north winds out of Coco but it laid down nice during the late morning. Caught an easy limit on Saturday and could have sunk the boat with 5-8 lb snapper. The snapper were coming up to the surface following up the hooked fish. Sunday was a different story. We had to wait for the rain storms to move offshore before heading out. Terrebonne bay was brutal in the AM and the gulf was a tight choppy quartering sea. Still managed to boat 8 decent snapper and a small grouper. Here is a pic of Saturday mornings fish box.

Nice fish. Had a 3 man limit of reds from the yaks on Saturday. Wind was howling in the early am.

We had a nice 3 man limit of big snapper on Friday with a decent scamp grouper, a very nice yellowtail snapper, and 6 big mangroves. Saw an absolutely enormous cobia, but it took off when I tossed a bait to it.
Saturday we had 6 on board and were only keeping the biggest snapper, so it took a while longer, but we got the limit. Had another scamp grouper, but this one was only about 19 inches. We only got one mangrove. We ran out to bluewater and did a little trolling, but never got a single hit. Tons of flying fish, though, so I am surprised we didn't see any action. Pulled up to a rig to fish, but it was a damn dead zone.
Drank entirely too much Saturday night and passed out on the dock. Couldn't make it yesterday, but 2 of our crew went out and caught their limit of red snapper and 2 nice king mackerel. They had a cobia on the line, but it got eaten by a big shark.
Back to the yellowtail snapper, I had never caught one before and knew very little about them, so I didn't weigh it. Then I looked up records later and realized I had probably cleaned a top-10 fish. C'est la vie.

Saturday ended up riding to Grand Isle with my family to just kill some time and look at camps for sale. Noticed the Gulf side was smooth as glass, it's never like that when I'm there to fish.
Sunday went to the Rockefeller Rufuge and got a quick 4 dozen nice crabs and boiled them before the LSU/ULL game. Could have easily had a limit but didn't want to mess with more than what we needed.

We need more people with your mindset.

There seems to be a ton of camps for sale in Grand Isle right now. I have been looking for one in Chauvin/Cocodrie but not much luck in my price range yet.

Damn hat those are some slammer mangroves. What block is that parking lot of a rig? Man that is a shite show. I saw a fair amount of boats but mostly single boats on rigs.

Pic really doesn't do justice since there's nothing to reference size

My fish box pic was taken in the ST-160's block and there were far less boats further west. I went to the ST-130's on Sunday and did see many more boat but nothing like that. Had one of the big party/charter boats pull up near me. Should have run to ship shoal on Sunday i think.

We fish that rig fairly regularly and there are always other boats there, but that's the most I've ever seen. We went further west into ST 120 and it was much less packed. 130 puts you in range of the Fourchon and GI daytrippers.
