Went to Shell Beach yesterday afternoon in the yak. I was catching specs about every 10-15 minutes. The reds were tearing up the water, but I couldn't get them to bite on plastics. Wish I would have brought some shrimp. I talked to quite a few with coolers full of reds and they were all catching them on market shrimp.
Whereabouts?

That was my first time in Pelba. I usually fish the western side of the basin out of Henderson. Figured I'd try something different. If you start figuring them out, let me know. We'll swap some tips.

It was my first time out so I wasn't sure how far off I wanted to venture. Fished a little in Pelba, a few other little cuts and coves not far off from the bridge and fished a little in Prayer Cove, nothing, even when I did find clean water. Seems everyone I talked to didn't do well either. Ran into a guy in a Jackson Big Rig who also said it was his first time out and he caught one. Next time out I was thinking of trying the west end in a couple weeks, we'll be in Venice this weekend.

I went to the parking lot at the end of the shell beach road. Put in right there and paddled across the canal to the marsh right on the other side of the jetties. I fished in and around that marsh and the canal there. All of the specs were caught right there in the inlet from the canal to the marsh.

Fished all right here:

Took the canoe and kid out for our first trip of the year on Saturday. We tried a new area I've never fished and didn't catch a damn thing. So much for the new spot. We did see a big gator though - I know it was over 10' and might have been a lot bigger. That was exciting for my daughter. Most people don't know we have any gators up here.

Sunday, we went to a proven spot. It took a while to find the fish, but we finally found a few. After we found them, I stopped fishing and let my girl do all the catching. Also I'd left the anchor at home and spent that time holding us in place with an overhanging branch.

Awesome seeing the kids catch. Also, that's a hell of a seat setup in your canoe.

Few trout here and there. Like others said the forecast was off.

Also got a wreckless operation ticket Saturday afternoon on the jetski for "jumping the wake of a boat that is still within 100 ft"

Wasn't the weekend technically, but last week in Missouri. Last hunt of the year.
