I'm tired of my cheap weedeaters crappibg out all the time so I think I want to go with something a little nice... Anything to look for between echo, sthil, Honda and shindawa? Any other brands to look into?

I'd stick with echo for 2-stroke and stihl for 4-stroke

Any advantage into going with a 4 stoke other than not having to keep a separate gas tank?

Happy with my Stihl. As long as you stick with a quality brand you'll be fine.

I bought a Shindaiwa because the local dealer of Shindaiwa/Echo told me that's what he has used at home for a decade, and because it was lighter than the comparable Echo.

I have had them all and used them all in a commercial setting. Used to swear by echo, and they are damn good, still is good as well. But the husqvarna 326 LS puts any line trimmer on the market to shame. The highest power to weight ratio you can get and it's a true 2 stroke engine. Im not partial to any one brand of handhelds. I use echo edgers, stihl pruners and chainsaws, etc. The husqvarna line trimmer is the best one you can buy. Period. I bought 2 of them last year and the guys that work for me have not touched the stihls since the first time they used the huskys

The 4-stroke ones I have used were all heavy for what they were, and don't wind up as fast as a 2-stroke. Only thing is you don't have to mix gas

I have an Echo with straight shaft. Had it for about 3 years now. I went in to buy a Stihl and ended up with the Echi because of the head. So much easier to load line on the Echo vs the Stihl

As to 2-stroke vs 4-stroke I'm firmly in the 2-stroke camp. Much more power.

Bought a straight shaft Echo from home depot 5 years ago. I have over an acre of land with a pond and 88 trees. All i have ever done is add fuel and string. Zero issues.

Whatever you buy, make sure it has a SPEED FEED

I'm in the market as well. Been having a Troy-Bilt for over 7 years and never had a problem with it. But the carb went out. Rebuilt it but it hasn't been the same.

My problem is all of the attachments that go with it. I want to make sure that whatever I get will be compatible with them. Trimmer Plus blower, cultivator, brush cutter, and pole saw.

Anybody know which trimmers are compatible with those?

I have the sthil kombi. If I didn't want all the heads and just a straight up weed eater I would have gotten a shindawia.
