A German Shepherd Dog, I will argue until I am blue in the face that these are the best dogs to ever roam the earth. Smart, loving and extremely protective by nature. Very good with children. I have turned around for a moment and look up and my 4 year old son is riding my GSD and slapping him on the butt and head and he just takes it with a look in his eyes that says "this is my job and I love it". Protection is their job. The best damn dog ever!

There is no relation. The proper name is miniature pinscher. Not miniature doberman pinscher.

German Shepard and it isn't even close.

They are smart enough to be 100% controllable and big enough to tear somebody's arse up with the right mentality to do it.

BMC or Malinois. Be prepared for hell with a Malinois, but they can get at someone with the quickness.

BMV is probably the best choice. They are pretty protective of people they know, and will go down fighting for your kids

Eta: My dad has a German Shephard, and it barks all fricking day long. Wears out bark collar batteries weekly. Neighbors are always bitching. It is a stupid dog, and a pussy. My buddy also had one that was scared of me when I got after it

Weird, since that's the exact opposite of most peoples experience with a shepherd.

You may be absolutely right about that particular dog, but that isn't the norm. There may be a couple of breeds smarter than a German Shepherd, but that's it.

My dad's is 1.5, so maybe that has something to do with it. My buddy's was 5. Wasn't any more mean than my lab.

Rare. LINK

Smart dogs are teachable. If the dog appears "stupid" then I think something is very wrong with the teaching.

quote:

#3 German Shepherd
German Shepherds are extremely intelligent, courageous, and have a very strong protective instinct (they are one of the best guard dogs). As long as they are trained in obedience from an early age by a loving but firm hand, they can be great family dogs, and excellent with children. Because of their intelligence, a German Shepherd needs a purpose or job in life to be truly happy. This intelligence, coupled with their courageous nature make German Shepherds excellent police and search dogs.

Yeah, part of that is my step mom freaking out if my dad even yells at the dogs. He can't do anything to correct them at all. Same with her dumb arse kids. They are truly dumb though.

I watched their house for a week, and had the dog behaving correctly. A week after they came back, the dog was acting up again.

My black lab is 100x smarter than him

My gf's dachshund is pretty good at detecting the tiniest movement or noise around the house.

Yep, my house was located on a large pond. We had an awful snake problem but she would chase them away of let me know where they were so I could kill them.
