We caught our only 2 fish punching grass with 3/4 ounce jigs this past weekend. The bite was just slow overall, though.

You can catch a lot of big ones punching the deep hydrilla at Toledo.

I have an Okuma extra heavy for punching. I've caught a few 5s and 6s. One of the most aggressive bites I've felt come from punching.

Do yall have a "go to" jig/trailer setup that you use anywhere?

I personally believe because of all the cover they can just go after it and don't have to worry about being detected coming in to strike it's prey. Just my thoughts though.

Look up Nu Tech jigs.

I love the pro series skirted jigs with a speed craw.

I have heard a ton about the Nu Tech jigs, I think I will definately pick up a few.

Black/blue seems to be a popular color combo?

I have used the Hackney jig with some success. I use the KVD chunks. This year I plan to change it up a little. I open to suggestions as well.

I use either Black/Blue, or Watermelon Candy. Depending on conditions. Never tried any other colors from Nu Tech, but those are my go to colors with most lures.

I mostly use the Strike King Hack Attacks and Oldham lures jigs. As far as colors it's usually black and blue, black/brown/amber, or green pumpkin.

Favorite trailers are Rage Tail Craws and Zoom Speed Craws. This time of year I use a chunk, though.

Have you been out there recently? Having any luck? A buddy from work said Texaco canal is probably the best bet. So I'll probably hit that first.

ETA: I have a few Hack Attack jigs, Denny Brauer, and some other types. Once I tried that Nu Tech jig all those other ones never get used. I never have any hang ups and haven't lost a single fish on that thing. It hooks at the very top of the mouth every time. Check out the videos on their website.

Speaking of jigs, I have a plan for this spring. You know those loosely connected football jigs? I bought some yesterday. Gonna buy some blk/blu skirts and trim off most of the top part making it like a crew cut then put a craw of some sort on the hook. I'm sure I'll get zero bites.
