W&F Pond Stocking

Yes, this is my first post on the OB, but hoping some of you may have some experience or advice.
We have a neighborhood development in Madisonville that has two ponds. Is it possible to have W&F to come out and stock them? If so, any recommendation on how to go about achieving this? Any guidance is greatly appreciated.

The used to do this for new ponds, but I don't think that program is around any more.

Call your local Co-Op and ask when the fish truck is coming.Find out who it is and call them and give them your pond info. They can help you in choosing the fish to suit your needs.

From what I recall LWF will stock it but it has to be designated as public. So if you want your neighborhood pond to look like Dalrymple, go for it.
Better off paying somebody.

Thanks everyone for the quick responses. This gives me some promising leads. Never had to do this before or know anyone who has, but the OB came through!

I thought I recalled at one time they would stock it for free as a conservation movement they were undertaking. I'm sure a fish hauler would be best bet, but heck why not get W&F involved if available. Basically bass, brim, and any other freshwater species that would fit well in this climate.

I picked up over 300 Florida bass fingerlings from them about 25 years ago. I think we also got some hybrid bream from them too.
I was 15 years old, just got my license, and drove from the Fisheries place on 165 North of Monroe all the way to Winn Parish and put them in our new pond all by myself. Weird that there is no way they would let kids do that today.

in Arkansas the AGFC will stock for free but it has to be designated as public... I do not know if that holds true in LA or not.

They will no longer stock private ponds, however they will consult you on what to do to make your pond better. They are an invaluable resource for that...

no... but.. they are very very effective method of bream control....
I will never forget watching those grass carp being let go and giant bass coming up and inhaling about a 14 inch carp
for those of you wondering I put 5-6 16-18 inch redfish in a pond.... they lived about 5 years or so... got to be about 20 inches... maybe a little bigger.. stayed in pairs or groups almost all the time...
gave the bream hell..

I will have to contact them and find out what they could recommend for these two ponds. Main usage for the ponds is a drain off for the subdivision. Not quite sure how deep it is, but will need to contact developer. Has great vegetation and looks healthy.

I would get in a small boat/kayak with a good depthfinder and create a map of the pond, the depth now and what the developer did could be very different due to siltation and sloughing off of banks, which is very common with new neighborhood ponds..
