i'm in lake charles.

my wife was looking at devil's den in arkansas and it seems pretty nice. anyone been there?

any other suggestions from the OB for some nice spots?

within 10 hours (or so)
cabin rentals
dog friendly
hiking trails
scenic
somewhat secluded
swimming
other?

where have you been that you would suggest?

we're wanting to go to utah for a bigger vacation around thanksgiving this year or next. if anyone has any suggestions on cabin rentals there, i'd appreciate it. the cabins are sparce as far as i can tell from my online searches as far as being somewhat close to the parks.

TIA

Ive stayed in the Longbow.. Its a bit rustic, but its built between two rocks and it has a deep natural pool and waterfall off your back porch., Unbelievable views there.

Utah is great... From SLC you have decent access to Zion, Arches, Bryce Canyon, and others.

Definitely worth a trip...

If you just want to get away for a quick trip close to home, go to Palmetto Island State Park, 6 miles south of Abbeville.
nice, new cabins with SAT TV
dog friendly, yes.
No real "hiking" to speak of. The Lagoon Trail is a straight end and out, with a small bayou running on the side of it. It's a good trail for seeing woodducks, snakes, wild hogs, and various songbirds. The other trails are really just walking paths through wooded wetlands.
No swimming. In the summer there's a "waterpark" that the young kids love.
There's a boat launch with very easy access to the Vermilion River, and a canoe launch accessing a 7 mile canoe trail through man-made lagoons. There are always small alligators in the 3 lagoons, but if they get to close to your canoe, just smack um on the snout with your paddle.
The scenery is coastal bottomland hardwood forest, and rustic.

Chicot park is a great place with hiking, fishing, & a pool during summertime. Hodges Gardens also offers hiking & fishing. Both of these places have cabin rentals, although it will be almost impossible to get something at Chicot anytime soon, cabins book up WAAAYYY in advance. As far as dog friendly, no luck there. I do believe it is LA State Park policy that NO dogs are allowed in the cabins, tickets & evictions will be issued. Try this website LINK /, gives great info on all parks.

Check Texas state parks. The problem is that the cabins are off limits to dogs.

When I lived in N. La, used to get up there every few years. Really nice area.
