I'm current military, young, in shape dude as well.

If I were in the actual situation you're probably right. I probably would have done the exact same thing. Mainly just hearing your story of your TV getting jacked and you and your GF getting mistreated by the NOPD made me mad all because I've seen that all to often.

This is where I find issues with the story

+1

Unless you have kids in the house, there is no reason to leave your weapon unloaded. When chambering a round, you risk the chance of a malfunction and giving up your position to the perp. It's best to have her ready to roll.

Besides that, I can't critique your story anymore than that. I don't know what I would do and simply hope I would make the right decisions. Glad it turned out alright for you.

Fortunately I've never had to draw before. But there have been times when I was happy to be carrying due to not trusting my surroundings.

I've had to pump buckshot into a charging 315 pound pissed off pig safari style.

That's the best I got. Never had to even consider pointing a gun at somebody. I have wished I had one a few times though.

I will say the reason I started carrying was an incident in the middle of Hammond.

Went to Taco Bell at 2am, busy intersection. I was in the right lane, there was an empty left lane, and a car full of people in the turning lane. All of us were stopped at a light.

Was playing with my phone and looked up and the light was green, started to take my foot off the brake and heard my drivers side rear door handle as someone tried to open it. (All doors lock automatically) I hit the gas and went straight and looked back as one of the guys ran back into the car in the turning lane. They turned and sped off.

I was pretty taken shocked at how quickly the entire thing went down. Another reason I will never carry without a round in the chamber. I may sound like a broken record, but you cant rack if you are engaged with someone, if someone hops in your car, or who knows what.

Completely agree.

Sometimes new CC'ers have to carry with an empty chamber just to see that the gun won't fire itself. Once they get over that small hurdle, it's best to chamber a round.

I carry my XDs locked and loaded everywhere I can. I just realized the other day that if my trigger gets hung up on something and gets pulled, if I depress the beaver tail safety it will shoot. I still carry it and love it but wish that did was not the case.

To clarify, I thought about what would happen in this situation and tried it unloaded to discover the answer.

I carry my XDs loaded also. If I reholster I will remove holster or pinch it in without touching the backstrap. Are you saying the grip safety fails on your pistol?

Didn't happen to me, but I was sort of a witness.

When I was in law school, my roommate called me on the way home and indicated he may a problem with some thug following him home after some road incident. They pulled into our apartment complex, and sure enough some sketchy looking car pulled in a few seconds after him, guy jumps out and starts beelining for my buddy's truck.

I watched from the balcony then headed out the door in time to see the thuggy kid bolt back for his car and head out of the lot. Turns out as he's walking up, my friend had chambered a round which was sufficient to dissuade the guy. I don't think my roommate ever leveled the pistol at him, but it was a stainless Taurus that was annoyingly loud to rack, so I guess he saw/heard as he approached.

I probably wouldn't have handled it that way, although I do think my friend called the police on the way home. Anyway, it evidenced to him and me why you can't get into petty shite when you're carrying.

I can holster and reholster my XDs without touching the grip safety. I carry mine in a Crossbreed Kydex holster so it keeps form.

I am saying that if in the event that I need to draw just my weapon off my side or the small of my back, my hand naturally depresses the grip safety. If by any chance that they trigger is depressed or caught on anything, it will shoot upon depressing the grip safety. It is extremely rare that this would every occur, Only when drawing just the gun and it would have to be snagged which is very rare for the Crossbreed holster. The grip safety works but I feel that if the trigger is depressed before the grip safety is disengaged, the firing pin should not engage. Just my opinion

RATW, I got mine from Barking Irons in Baton Rouge. I know that they had a constant supply of them a few months back. I also know that Jims (shithole) had lots of them too.

the poster had a burglar in his house. He had burglar run off and never was in any jeopardy. I would say he handled it just fine.

The thing I want in an altercation is space, however that is achieved that is all I care about.

I have had use brandish a weapon on 3 different occassions. The first was in highschool. I'd been "parking" with my GF and when we were leaving, two big arse guys had the roadblocked and each had a weapon in hand (one a tire tool, the other a club of some sort). We were on our property so they had no business being there other than bad intentions. Luckily it was during hunting season so I had my 30-06 with me. I stopped and rolled down my window and opened my door. Using the door for cover, I aimed at the nearest one and suggested they get back in their vehicle and leave. Apparently they saw the wisdom in my statement, despite my youth. They GTFO there in a HURRY.

15 years ago had a man approached me and a female co-worker in a parking lot before dawn. It was summer and he was wearing an army jacket with hands in his pockets. He was walking towards us screaming at us. Raised my .357 at him and told him to stop. He wasn't scared of me pointing a gun at him at all. Actually he was rather brash. It was odd how fast it happened but still how much my mind processed the available information in front of me. If he would have taken any step towards us I would have had to shoot him. He started back across the parking lot rambling about how I had a big gun for him. I was weak in the knees 10 minutes later when I actually realized how close I came to shooting someone. Also scary what he would have done to the girl if I hadn't been there. She still remembers that to this day and tears up when she sees me.

Was in memphis in my car at a light and some crackhead came up and started beating my window so I drew my 5.7 and the guy turned from black to white in about .00001 second when he saw the pistol and ram. Would have been messy a 5.7 a point blank range would have been devestating

So, I work at a hospital that is surrounded by some fairly shady neighborhoods. After working there about a month I bought my first pistol(Glock 19) and started keeping it at my bedside and in my car to and from work. Fast forward about 6 months and I'm at a red light heading home around midnight. An urban male in his late teens/early 20s on one a bike flashed by my driver's side window and turns in front of my car and keeps going like he's circling me. Grab my Glock and start checking my mirrors and he flashed by my window again. I punched the gas through the red light, almost hit him, and got the frick out of there. I couldn't tell if he was carrying or not but it scared the shite out of me.
