Serious?

John boat is a 12 foot or less alum'n, wet arse itch'n, loud arse paddle bang'n, sun burn'n, lazy swamp drift'n, squirrel shoot'n boat.

So pretty much a regular john-boat...

And who is John?.....85% of the uncles in LA are named John....FACT!

'm interested but I have no boat. I'll hitch a ride with LSU Mike.

Sounds like a plan to me. My boat would love to make a trip like that. Will get us there in a hurry. You just bring your small arsenal so we can play.

34, what kind of deal you come across for a new boat? How long have you owned that pathfinder?

how interested would everyone be in an OB camping trip on Cat, Ship, or Horn Island?

A few of us on LAS are planning an overnighter to either Chandeulier around july/august before the sharks get bad.

Starting to pick up momentum, after re-reading this thread I think I'm looking for a boat that "runs on a pad", not a heavy boat that can eat up rough water.

Other than shearwater, what are some other examples of this type of boat?

Blazer Bay, Pathfinder, Blue Wave(Purebay models). To name a few.

This will get much more attention if bumped on Monday. All of the boat experts are out fishing in them on the weekends.

Aren't the Tritons real heavy? Never thought of them as a lighter run across the top type bay boat.

They are good boats though.

The one I fish out of might be heavy, but it rides well in seas and swells. I think it might be the width, summa bitch is wide, it's a LTS.

Blackjack boats sounds like something you'd be interested in.

whatever you buy... make sure the above is met. with that budget, worst thing you could do is buy an underpowered rig

This and do not buy a 2 stroke at any cost. 225-250 2 strokes suck gas. That trip to last island would take at lease 30 gallons maybe more depending on boat and payload. Good luck

Just looked a few up quick to compare weights:

Triton 22' is 2300#
Shearwater 23' is 1900#
Blazer Bay 22' is 1575#

I would look at some two strokes....

I have an Optimax with almost 7000 hours on it and it gets about 3 miles to the gallon. I don't think that's terrible. Etec is another to consider.

That being said with all being equal I would get a four stroke now a day. Just don't give up on something with some of the newer two strokes out there.

Buddy of mine found a 22 ft skeeter with a 175 Yamaha for like 16500. Unreal shape. Its a few years old but was kept under a carport and barely used. Basically to pull his grandkids on a tube.

The blue wave pure bay looks really nice. Don't see many used ones for sale on the Internet. A local dealer sells them, may have to check them out.

I've noticed several boats with bait wells under the console front seat and not much space for an ice chest for fish. Do y'all generally use the built in fish boxes?

I use my built in fish box but I think that I am in the minority. It just saves so much space by not having that extra ice chest on board. It doesn't hold ice as well as a regular ice chest but it does the job plus it's huge so I never have to worry if I have enough space if I slam the trout and redfish in the same day.

I would definitely recommend checking out the Blue Wave Pure Bays along with Frontier and Nautic Star. They are all quality boats that aren't too heavy and don't have the Shearwater type of price tag.

Was discussing this last weekend. We normally only fish 2 people, but that box would hold a 6 person limit with ease. The fish swim around until they get too cold.
Any ideas as to how you might go about insulating it more? The ice chest idea was nixed quickly.

Don't know about the adding insulation. It's all sealed up by fiberglass. But ice is cheap. My kids go throw a gallon of milk every couple days. I wash out the jug and freeze them. Throw a few of those in there with a bag of regular ice on every trip and we're good to go.
