Turning an old butane tank into a barbecue pit

Did this with a 250gal air supply tank. Ended up mounting it on a trailer. As far as a butane tank.... I think it's more of a DIY project. I know it needs to be soaked with water and purged well. Good luck with it though!

Yes I've seen quite a few, and started
one myself. They are great. Take precautions venting and purging then have at it.
I used a six footer, but that makes a really big pit and was more project than I wanted. Handed it off before I was done.

Look up BBQ by Franklin, he has an episode describing how to turn propane tank into smoker.

I watched this episode on tv the other day. He goes all out with his pits. And even explains the details about how and why you do things certain ways. Good watch in my opinion.

Yea I don't think I know a single place around me that would deliver large quantities of Butane. Propane on the other hand is easily available. Although I am sure butane would have better heating properties.
A hand torch is about the only butane I have ever worked with.

Never tried a butane tank.
Have made them from Hot Water Heater tanks though.
Hot water tanks are easy to find. Just have to take them apart and burn the insulation off the inner tank.
