They'll fly back up during the day if spooked

I've seen them on good weather days stay up until 9-10am for no apparent reason. On bad weather days much longer. I've seen one that I know saw me stay up there an extra hour before he flew to another tree 100yds away. I've also watched one fly down at daylight then fly back up when bad weather came through mid-morning. Don't try to figure out what they are thinking, they're all crazy sometimes.

made a late season hunt one year and had put one to bed the evening prior. Snuck in and when it started getting daylight I could see him about 75 yards out on the limb. Was trying to get a hunt in before a rain came through. Started raining at around 8ish and I decided to wait him out till it quit raining. Stopped raining about 10, i left at 1230 and it was misty and dreary. he was still sitting on the same limb.

I would have put the move on him. Its usually a 50/50 shot but I wouldn't have left him sitting there.

Shooting one off the limb is gayer than a creedemore

I am heading out right now to see if any want to play after this storm. Power is still out, no sense being at the house

I once made a hunt in some really bad winds, on my drive to the spot an hour before daylight there was one standing in the road. I also now assume if you ever see one run over in the road, they got blown out of the tree

CSB: One morning in late October I was going bowhunting about an hour before daylight. Just easing down an old farm road in my pickup (this was maybe 25 years ago). And I could see something weird in the headlights of the truck. Got out and walked up to it. And it was a gobbler sound asleep in the road, with its head under a wing. The sound of the truck and me walking up didn't even wake him. I had to kick him to wake him up to get him out of the way.

I know where I live in Wilkinson County Ms the last high pressure day was Saturday, they gobbled like crazy. The pressure dropped Saturday night and we didn't hear a peep Sunday. Monday morning I heard a bird when I was getting in my truck to go to work (almost called in). The pressure has been below 30 all week and with Friday being the next high pressure day it should get them fired up.

People say this, and I'd only agree if you sit underneath his roost in the dark.

If you can somehow manage to get within shotgun range of a turkey in daylight in a tree, then got damn I'll allow it. That's impressive imo.

My grandfather was hunting 15 years or so ago and had one go quiet on him. He stood up after 30 mins or so, and the tom was right there. He said it flew up into the tree not more than 20 yards from him. Blasted it.

I really don't have an issue with that either, dumb arse bird can't just call the tree a free pass zone.

Last year I was working a bird and stuck in a spot. Then another Tom flew up in a tree 55 yards from me. Directly across from me. He basically trapped me in this spot as the original turkey left. I had a 20ga that day and attempted to shoot him off the limb after an hour. Wasn’t successful.
