Had a door to door salesman from Tree Guardian (out of Baton Rouge) hit me up this morning. I have 3 average size Red Oaks and a maple. He mentioned lifting canopy and removing interior branches to guard against heavy winds. I've been considering this for a year or so but have no clue as to what this should cost. He quoted approximately 3k since they were "in the area".

Anyone have any experience with having this done and an approximate cost?

TIA

It depends on how much canopy they are going to remove. If it takes them 1/2 day then it is a high quote, if it takes them 2+ days then it is a fair quote.

I had two huge live oak trees done, took about 1.5 days and it was $2,200 with all the debris removed.

sounds way high. I had a huge maple? cut and removed from my backyard, with the use of a crane for like $1000. Plus he cut and removed 2 small trees for nothing.

Call Zeff at Biggz Tree Care.He is a good friend of mine. He knows more about trees than every other BR arborist combined. They do amazing work. Top rated tree company on Angie's List. 225-205-0706

Make sure they're insured and have a Louisiana license. Some of their Facebook reviews aren't very good.

I would call Bayou Tree Service in BR. They're awesome to deal with and do a professional job.

Dave at Bayou is good too. They are generally a little bit higher than Biggz. Still wouldn't be bad to get a quote from them as well. Then you will have 3.

If you're in the Lafayette area, I would get quotes from Possums Tree Service or Billy Broussard Tree Service. Your number seems a little high but it has been some time since I've had to have any such work done.

had a guy knock on my door yesterday in Houston with the same "in the area" thing. He quoted me for trimming 3 oaks, a giant palm tree, and taking a large branch off of a pecan tree that hangs over my garage. quoted $800. I was really surprised it was that low, I am going to take him up on that offer at some point when he is back "in the area".

I know nothing about Tree Guardian.

But any quote based on "being in the area" should be viewed with a high level of skepticism.

Had my huge live oak trimmed this year.....$2,500 for 3 guys and a ma lift for a day. That wasn't unreasonable and neither is $3k
