Toyota Tundra Owners (2000-2006 models): Advice Please

I need some advice. I'm about to be in the market soon, if I can sell my Tacoma. I'm wanting a full size pick up that's 4x4. Wanted to get a Z71 or FX4 but can't seem to pull the trigger on one that I'd trust enough last.
I've heard good things about the first gen tundras, and see plenty on the road to this day. Are there any particular specifics I should know about these vehicles? Motors? Transmissions? TRD packages? How many miles can they go before any major maintenance needs to be done?

Don't own one but those were solid solid trucks. Just drink some gas.

Im sure they are fine but the second gen is Tundra is probably one of the biggest upgrades ever. They have proven to be great trucks, I would go second gen.

Those will be more out of my price range. Even an '07. Not looking to spend more than $8k.

I have a 2006 double cab...been very happy with it...
no problems at all...
just changed the timing belt and waterpump out as it was scheduled for 90K to 100K miles for changeout...
the mileage is around 16/18mpg with regular ethanol...

Ahh. Dont know much about them, but they are a small full sized truck. Still see a bunch around though. People I know who have them like them.

I had a 2005 I sold a month ago to buy a 2016. Timing belt changed @140k (supposed to be 85k), had a rear seal leak @100k or so and had to be replaced. CV joints went out at 135k or so. Other than that, oil changes and brakes. It was as reliable of a vehicle as I could have asked for.
Never got better than 17.5 mpg. 10-12 if towing anything. Get 16.5 in my new truck with much bigger motor.
If you are buying a used truck on an $8k budget, you should buy a Toyota. I could have kept that truck another 10 yrs. probably should have.

How many miles did you have on it when you sold it? And for how much if I may ask?

I owned one and put about 150000 miles on it with no problem. I then bought an 08 that I still drive. I have 200,000 miles on it and have done nothing but change the oil, brake shoes and timing belt on schedule. The battery lasted 7 years--it was a Panasonic.
The are two main differences--the first got bad bas mileage and it's turning radius was very large.
Toyotas are very good trucks but I would spend my money on the second generation for those two reasons.

173k and got $7,500 on trade. Could have probably got a little over $8k outright.

No. 2wd sr5 access cab

Have a 2001 Tundra access cab SR5 w 188,000 miles. Very reliable vehicle and nothing more than routine maintenance. I'm getting to the point that I want to go buy me a new truck but can't bring myself the pull the plug on a truck that still runs great.

fricking loved mine. Was an 03. Had 200k miles on it and never had a single problem! Cop pulled out in front of me a few months ago and totaled it. Didnt realize how much I loved it until it was gone.

I have an 05. Zero problems at all in the 11 years I've had it

The last true "truck" ever built. Interior is crappy but everything lasts, seats are not a lazy boy, exterior is not flashy..... but they will tow the mail and are rock solid. Best "truck" built in the last 25 years... one of my mechanics has one for a reason.
