I have a 2002 Mazda B4000 with just over 150k miles. I don't drive it much. I'm going to pick up a 19ft boat, an early 90s Mastercraft Prostar 190. I checked the weight capacity for towing with my truck (5,500 lbs), the weight of the boat (2200 lbs) and the weight of the boat trailer, single axel (900 lbs). I should be fine towing the boat, right? My main concern is the age of my truck and the mileage. I'll be towing for about 200 miles.

Thanks!

Just factor in how much the boat weighs plus other stuff for example how much fuel, batteries, motor, etc. this can significantly increase the weight of a boat

When I had a Ford Ranger 4x4 I pulled a 19 ft Ranger bass boat with 150 hp back when Rangers were heavy. The only issue I had was a few super steep ramps you had to watch it. Besides that no problems with 4.0 V6.

Thanks for this tip, definitely good to keep in mind. It's an inboard engine, so hopefully, the engine is included in the weight specs.

Living in the Texas hill country, this could be an issue. I also have 4x4, that didn't always help?

You can use the boat to goose you out a lot of times.

I have a 22’ Bay boat with a 250 Yamaha, prob 4800# with fluids/gas/gear. I toy with a 4WD 4Runner with 4.0L V6, not an ideal tow vehicle with short wheelbase but I’ve never had any issues towing in Louisiana or getting off boat launches. I did add a transmission cooler...As others have said, just be smart and a defensive driver and you should be fine.
Trailer brakes and tandem axle really helps out but expansion joints still totally suck!

Youll be fine on realtively flat ground. I had a boat about the same size and my fruend pulled it occasionaly with his 4 Cyl Ranger. Only thing that gave us problems was the Prospect Overpass.
