Cleaning up and old cypress bench that has about 1/4" of polyurethane

Was covered in deep scratches. [/img]

Lots of hours of sanding to go. Used citrus stripping agent for top. But all the bark edges with need meticulous attention.

Update. 14 hours later got poly off. Any ideas for how dark of stain to apply? Appreciate and responses. [/img]

Yea taking a break. Been at it 4 hours. Must have been a dog that scratched it. You can see them in groups of three.

Someone threw it out years ago and I picked it up. Had some free time this week and with the rain I can't go fishing

Personal prefernce, but don't use any stain at all on cypress.
2 coats of Waterlox Marine sealer and 2-4 coats of Waterlox Marine finish (gloss) and call it a day.

Edit: it's a tung oil based product.

Will take a week to do it properly, i.e. cure between coats.

You can order it online through paintsource.com

Looking good. I hate sanding with a passion.

Thanks for the advice.

Would like it to look natural as possible. Looked like crap with that poly mopped on like it was

Found this stuff on my grandpas garage where I'm working. [/img]. Was curious how old it may be.

That company started out in Florida in the early 70's I believe. I think it has changed hands several times over the years.

Likely a similar product to Waterlox, which has been in production since 1910

Where were you when I started this thread?

I'll keep that in mind in the future.

A good choice, but will not protect against UV and can grow mildew. If this will not be in the sun or get wet/damp, no issue.
