This past Saturday afternoon I got in my bow stand nice and early(4:30pm) as to give the woods plenty of time to settle down before it got prime time. I've had this buck on camera for a few weeks now and I knew he'd be coming from the north and so I made sure the wind was also straight from the north. Long story short, the wind changed and started coming out of the west. The 8 point comes out of the north, catches my wind and busts me.

I completely covered my clothing, boots and bag with scent away. Do you wash with scent free detergent and put your camouflage on after you get to the woods? How far do you go to be scent free?

I never use scent killer. I only check the wind.

Just use the spray and hope for the best. I'm not convinced any method can completely cover you. Don't know about you but I've always got some sweat going by the time I make it up in that tree.

expensive scentblocker clothing, ozonics, liquid spray, etc. are not going to fool a deer's nose.

hunt the wind.

they are correct but I have fooled them and got with 15 feet many times. Had a pair of does that thought i was a buck once and turned their arse and tail up at me once. I am fanatical about these shite and take chloroform tablets, scent block, drag lines always, and use real pine tree oil, a lot and hunt the damn wind. This year trying out new ozone chargers.

But u still need the wind

I don't believe there's any way to be scent free to a deers nose.
If the wind is blowing their way and they're in bow range you will be smelled.

You can't fool a mature whitetails nose. Buck or doe.

Google chewing gum and deer hunting.

I honestly believe this is one of the best covers. I have guys in my lease with the latest camo patterns and scent suits along with Ozonics and continually get busted. I rarely get busted. I chew Eclipse Winterfrost fwiw.

Wash clothes with the scent away type detergent, shower before going to stand, use cover scent, hunt the wind, & get as high in the tree as possible.

Although the it covers human scent, it still puts a foreign odor in the air and deer are skittish. I know of several people that struggled to kill good bucks in their area until they got rid of the ozone.

This and: use scent free soap and deoderant and Scent Away on boots and clothes and use a drag line. I also keep my hunting clothes in a separate Rubbermaid container after washing with some cover scent dryer sheets, and keep my rubber boots out of the house and don't put them on until I walk to the blind.

I mainly hunt in a box blind, so it's not as big a deal, but I do the same things when I hunt in a tripod and can't recall ever having been busted.

Everything I've ever read and heard says that there is very little you can do besides hunting the wind. Deer are capable of distinguishing multiple scents even if one is covered, and nothing is going to completely remove human odor to level that a deer can't smell it. Some people swear by cover scents, like smoke, but deer can just smell that and you. In my experience cigarette (or wood) smoke doesn't bother them at all, but it also won't keep you from getting busted.

It's not the end of the world though. I'm not saying this was you, but I think a lot of people blame getting busted on scent when there were other factors. I hunt some very pressured deer, and I'm of the opinion being still, quiet, and breaking up your silhouette are more important.

I go overboard..

I always play the wind (though this weekend the wind was a count)
I was all my clothes (shirts, pants, socks, boxers, towels) in scent free detergent
I shower in scent free soap before each hunt
I spay down before heading to my stand

I know it's over board but I really dont want to chance the situation you encountered either

ETA: Cover scent is worthless IMO. Scent 'eliminators' have much more effectiveness
