Browning A-Bolt (rifle itself will be right at $1000)

Weatherby Vangaurd (about $500, can get a combo with a Bushnell Scope, case, and strap for about $700)

Tikka T3 Lite (about $600)

ETA: Remington 700 is a great gun also.

What caliber are you looking into?

I have a 30-06 now but I'm giving it back to my dad. I'm not sure if I should change.

imo: 30-06 is the best all around caliber.

$400 without scope.

i lean towards the 30-06 myself. .270, .308 and even .243 is usually all we need if hunting the southeast. plus ammo is cheaper and easier to find than some of those odd rounds.

What is the longest shot you can make on your place? And are u going to be there for a while? U shouldn't choose your gun bc of popularity... Although some of the suggestions are good, it may not be ideal for you

A hell of a lot of gun for price. Retails $999 but one can be had for less than $900...

Weatherby Vanguard Sub-MOA

Reminton 700 SPS in .308

Great rifle and you're left with $400ish to spend on a scope.

Tikka make a damn fine gun for good price. Remington 700 or model 7 and Browning A-bolt. Any of these chambered in 30-06 or 270, I would avoid a 308 unless ur sure your shots will be within 200 yards.
