going to be getting a new prs chambered in 22lr. Local range has 200 yard steel challenge. targets are 12", 8", and 4".

The Bergara is a rem 700 footprint so your choice of aftermarket accessories is almost endless. The Bergara is definitely a more popular rifle for rimfire precision competitions.

I don't know anything about a BMR, but I'll tell you my Tikka T3 in .270 drives tacks.

yeah ive read great things about both an i know that tikka t1x will take the t3x stocks and triggers and all that and bergara is a bergara. I have the hmr wilderness in 300 win mag but i have to have a 22lr under 800 bucks to shoot 200 yards. scope and any other mods after intial rifle purchase do not matter. But i havent shot either rifle in 22 lr

Not to say either that you posted are not great rifles, but just wanted to throw another in the mix. CZ 457 or 455 if you can find one.

Ruger Precision Rimfire is pretty nice as well if you like chassis style rifles

I have Tikka T1x, but have no personal experience w/ the Bergara, nor the aforementioned CZ or Ruger Precision. OTOH, my best buddy has a CZ 457 in 17 HMR and it is a real tack driver. My Tikka will frequently shoot 1" 5 shot groups at 100 yards w/ CCI Standard Velocity. I've not shot any target ammo in it. His CZ has shot some really nice groups hovering around 1/2" at 100 yards w/ preferred ammo. In comparing the Tikka w/ the Bergara, I have a hard time imaging you could be unhappy w/ the Tikka. I'd handle both and get whichever on has the specific features YOU want. Keep us updated.

I picked up a BMR a few weeks ago as a partial trade.
Wanted something to pick off coons on our feeders without making a bunch of racket.
Using cheap rem and Winchester ammo it gets a pretty consistent inch and a half group at 100 yards. I think quality ammo will tighten it up. The gun is pretty decent quality. Bolt is smooth. Stock trigger is prob about 2.5 pounds and crisp. Thinking about putting a nice Diamond tech trigger in it. Stock is ok, barrel is clean and free floated. It is super light. It might benefit to have some shot epoxied in the fore end.
Overall, for a $500 22 rifle I would say it exceeds expectations.
I can easily hit a 4 inch plate at 150 yards, the distance to two feeders I can see at pretty much any time.
And yes, it dispatches coons quite well. It’s a very interesting timing thing. Hear the pop and see the impact, then clearly hear a muffled smack after they roll over.
I do think the CZ models are prob better, get that from my prs buddies. More expensive too. I don’t have any knowledge or experience w the Tikka 22 models, have no doubt they are great. Most 22 rifles have a particular ammo they shoot best. Only way to find it is experiment.
For an accurate 22 around the camp, or a starter 22 comp gun, I think the bmr prob holds its own. And, it’s only 500 bucks, not like spending 3 or 4 k for a prs MPA comp gun

yeah the only reason i havent looked at a cz is bc my friend has one and i dont want the same exact rifle. Trust me the cz 457 varmint precision trainer is THE rifle to have but like i said i dont want the same setup as him. But this is going to be a prs rifle i have plenty of lower end 22s that i can plink or kill random wandering pest on the farm. just looking for long range tack drivers really

Despite the fanfare I swore I’d never own a CZ with the backward safety. Do they still have that?

The 457 has a rem 700 style safety.

Whats your budget for this rifle? Could look at the Zermatt Rimx or Vudoo barreled actions and throw it in a cheap stock or what not.

They changed it. Normal style safties now. Great rifles.

The cost of the rifle itself has to be 800 or less. This does not include scope, or drop in triggers, or gunsmithing or scopes or stocks. But it has to be bought it can not be just buy a receiver and then have a barrel and the build it yourself or have a gunsmith build it for you. so that is why i was thinking the tikka or the bergara

I would consider a CZ or maybe a CZ
and you could always try a CZ

In that case, how much do you want to spend? Id buy a CZ457, replace/upgrade the barrel, stock, trigger and slap a Bushnell Match Pro on it.
A factory cz457 should be under your price.
The tikka and bergara rifles as nice as well, just trying to give options.

CZ has a few models that are under $800 MSRP.
From my experience shooting rimfire PRS this is how I rank the three rimfire rifles
CZ
Bergara
Tikka

Posted on 7/20/23 at 10:27 am to civiltiger07
