Kicking the summer off right with another death.

quote:

One woman drowned Sunday while tubing on the Upper Amite River in the Watson area, a Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman said. The Sheriff’s Office identified the victim as Kimberly Gillien, 32, of Franklin, spokeswoman Lori Steele said. Deputies said no foul play is suspected, Steele said. Deputies and East Baton Rouge Parish EMS were called just before 3 p.m. to the scene, a spot on the river near Greenwell Springs Road and Ednie Lane near the Livingston and East Baton Rouge parish line. It appears the woman was tubing on the river at the time, Steele said. A second woman was taken to a hospital, EMS spokesman Mike Chutz said. Her condition was not known Sunday.

I'm surprised this place hasn't been shut down yet. I'd like to hear MJ2's thoughts

Last summer I was on the river there and got flagged down by a fireman who had walked through the woods to respond to a tuber 911 call. Girl was passed out in a tube unresponsive. Fireman asked us to run up around the bend and tell the other emergency responders the location of the girl. We ended up making the paramedic get in the boat with us so we could run her down quicker. On the ride I asked her what the call was about and she said "the usual, lots of booze and drugs." Evidently it's a common occurrence. When tending to the unconscious girl the friends with her just stood back and watched. Saw them downriver later and they were partying just like nothing happened. They trash that section of the river up terribly. Therefore, when I get a hoop net slap full of buffalo or turtles, I wait until passing the tubers before I throw them all out of the boat yelling "watch out this is a mean one!" Screw them all.

Every sand bar looks like this all summer long unless the land owners go out there and clean it up

im shocked this place is still open... we live not too far from there on the EBR side and can usually spot the airmed helos going to get a drowning victim. the fact that they allow people who cannot swim to tube is beyond me.

that waiver must be iron clad

Really?

In 05ish I would float 5 gallon cooler of jungle juice or cherry koolaid and vodka for that very reason.

Was like a hummingbird feeder for sexy black women.

We wouldn't turn away the big mamas, but it was very clear what we wanted around instead.

Thankfully there weren't as many drugs or fights back then.

If you are ever tubing and someone comes by in a boat yelling "quit throwing your trash in the river you nasty littering fricktards!" That's me.

me and my daughter were out there when the bus dropped them off. I figured it a little odd that they would be dropping people off so late on a Sunday. It was a small group. I saw 4 guys and 2 women.
