This is why you always open the egg door in your coop slowly.

So do they just feast on the eggs or will they take out the odd rodent? Trying to determine if a killing would be justified in this situation?

The pictures of the broken eggs are eggs that came out of him.

Take him out let him slither away, he comes back eats more eggs, keeps the hens from laying, scares the shite out of me again.

No thanks. If it's not a king snake, it's dying. Sorry to hurt your feelings.

Figured, but you know the rodent population will surely explode.

It's a rat snake, so there's that.

Naw man, I'm just going along with the theme of the OB letting snakes pass for the sake of rodent control. I was always in the mindset that a good snake was a dead snake but I guess I have mellowed since joining the OB. However, I always want to know what makes a justified snake killing.

Nah, he'd explode if he ate that often.

Sure, they'll eat a few eggs and baby chicks along with rodents. They're not going to eat a ton though. If you're concerned, relocate him, or fix up your hen house so they can't get in. Half inch hardware cloth will do the trick.

just reach in there and grab him
100% harmless

he will need to be moved or he will keep coming back. i had a big rat snake in my coop i drove him about a mile away and let him go in the woods

9 hens, and usually everyday. That was 2-3 days worth though.
