re: Thinking of switching to a baitcast reel

I've got Revo Inshore's, you can always swap out/upgrade bearings if those start giving you problems. I do a lot of wade fishing and that puts a hurting on my equipment, especially when people stand the rod on the bottom to untwist the bait at the tip. Sand really grinds my gears.

I always just grab the line

So how do get your cast to stop? When I'm marsh fishing and I can't throw my pole exactly 15 yards how do you stop?

You don't have the touch to make short or long casts?

I do but it's tough sometimes with wind etc throwing into a marsh cut. I'm not perfect guys. I like my spinning I'm just looking for a new reel and figure i'd try this and see if I can cast better.

Learn to flip with spinning reel, one of my best "weapons." Spend a couple afternoons in the back yard flipping to a coffee can, learn to do it with your baitcaster when you get it too.

Baitcasting into the wind is a recipe for disaster. Always good to have a spincast handy for those windy days.
Casting accurately depends on rod also. Most bass fishermen aren't using 7'-7'-6" rods.

This, you shouldnt be casting any harder than you need to. IF your having to stop it, you need practice on how hard to sling it. Practice with a bait and no hooks, or just a wieght. Dont practice with heavier than your going to use though.

Gotta agree with several posters about Shimano. I can't give my opinion on Revo's, but Shimano's drag is second to none. Others may cast further, but none can match Shimano's drag. Watch a fishing show when they hook into a nice fish and it starts taking line. Watch the rod tip "jerk" up and down as the fish takes line. That doesn't happen with Shimano. The drag is smooth and steady, no jerking.

Do yourself a favor and buy this one: LINK (old school Shimano Bantam)
I have had them all and this is the best bang for the buck, especially for a beginner. I have one of these particular models that was purchased in 2000, has been through hell and back from the Amite River to Toledo Bend to all of inshore LA to even offshore in the Gulf, and the only maintenance I have ever done to it is spray off with a hose and spray with Reel Magic once in a while. That's it. And it can still cast as far as my brand new reels.

I only have 3 under 7, one for top water, one for spinner baits, and a 6'9" spinning rod for flukes/ jerk baits.

you use a shorter rod for top water?

I like a shorter rod for walking the dog, easier on the wrist.

This, most bass fishermen are using over 7' now. Especially for fishing cranks and jigs.
