I'm pretty sure I'll be getting one soon. I've been looking at the Colt LE6920 Series LINK. Some people have told me that Colt is the best and worth the extra money. Others have told me that there are only a few differences between other cheaper rifles and the Colt and its not worth it. I'm not sure who to believe. Does anyone own a Colt or other model AR? If so what are your thoughts or opinions?

Outdoor Board

Carson had an AR thread that had gotten pretty lengthy. Maybe someone over there has it saved and can link it for you

You know there is an Outdoor Board where people sit and wait for questions like this.

If it's your first one and you are just getting into them, you really just want to avoid polymer lowers. Whatever brand you buy after that will please you.

Don't own one, but have a couple friends whom both own Daniel Defense ARs swear by them.

Probably get much better, broader and more spirited advice on the Outdoor Board.

Having said that, Colt is an excellent choice. From your post, it appears you are not familiar with the platform or the many varieties that have exploded over the last 10 to 15 years. Once upon a time, there were few choices, Colt, Armalite, Bushmaster - now there are, literally dozens of decent sized lower receiver manufacturers and probably hundreds of guys with smaller shops - not to mention the option of finishing your own lower with machine shop tools/CNC - then completing the package with a dizzying array of trigger options, upper/barrel combinations, furniture, optics, lights, accessories - truly staggering how this has become the Swiss Army Knife of centerfire, semiautomatic rifles.

But, the Colt you cited is a very respectable starting point. Few (although they exist) will think you overpaid for Colt, which is generally mil-spec quality. I do recommend the M4 configuration and iron sights, in 5.56mm NATO for a first AR-15 platform. Your choice to do more things with accessories will largely depend on your experience and ultimate purpose of use for the platform.

Good luck and happy shooting.

Checked there but seemed to be mostly hunting and stuff, thanks for your helpful reply though.

My polymer is one of my favorites and by far the one that I shoot the most.

I have a Colt, Sig Sauer and DPMS. Colt and Sig seem to get very good ratings as well as the DPMS, Bushmaster and some others. You want to get one with rails that you can mount a scope, etc. They have all kinds of accessories you can get for these guns, so if you can get one with the rails, that puts you ahead. I don't know if it's still true, but Walmart used to carry Colt and Sig and the pricing was hard to beat. Any gun show will have them but some of those can be well worn.

Just buy cheap shite and build your own... it's not like you're going out competition shooting.

Palmetto State, DPMS, etc. Don't pay twice as much for Colt.
