Fair enough. There is nothing wrong with someone getting into the platform with a stock Colt M4 configuration. He doesn't know what he doesn't know, yet.

I had a buddy who was both military AND LE - he had at least 1 of everything. He was an early adopter of gas piston, Durakote, crazy optics - the whole smash. He died way too young, and had probably $15k of rifles in his safe.

RIP Greg

absolutely not. I will give OP the one he linked with no problems. just want him to see the others and have a nice knowledge base before buying. you wouldnt believe how many guys come in and say "my xxx buddy in xxx operator job said that it's colt or nothing else." it's kind of annoying. those guys have used colts exclusively because that's what they were issued and they use their credentials as mil/le to sell it. it's goofy. id rather walk someone through all the features of each brand and let them choose

considering a vintage M16 M-1 will fetch $25-$30k at a gun show, that's not alot of money.

For a Daniel? as part of our tac sale at bowie's, we have Daniels with Magpul furniture on sale for below cost. pretty smokin deal. regularly go for ~$1389. Put an optic on it with some backup irons and you're good

1200+ base cost isnt good "bang for your buck" when you can build the same thing for 500. And for what most people get them for(to say they have one, to show friends, to shoot at a target every once and a while) the 500$ one is plenty.

this is why i have an AK instead. cheap arse cold war era ammo works just fine and i never have to clean it.

who wants a fussy-arse rifle?

eta my ak is louder than your ar

Colt is an overrated and overpriced company. I'd look into Rock River Arms. Get an all chrome interior w/ free floating barrel for a little less than that standard Colt. Sig 516 is also a pretty sweet gun.
