I have a feeder I set up in the woods that has a 30 yard shot at the longest and was thinking of maybe going with a 30/30 open sight. With that being said I don't have a 30/30 and was wanting some ideas on which one to purchase. I do like the look of stainless in the level guns but does not have to be a must. I'm also open to other options expect for buckshot.

I have wanted to get a Ruger 77/44 or 77/357 for the longest time for my stands that are set up in the woods with 50 yard shots.

30/30 Winchester
My wife gave me one as a gift and I take it when I'm hunting in the woods. I put a Nikon 2-7x32 scope on it. It's a great little gun for not a lot of money .

I have a buddy with a Marlin Model 336SS. Very fun gun to shoot. I love the concept of a 20" barrel on a lever, and love the working class (not a safe queen) utility of having something to throw in the ranch truck and not worry about messing up a scope.

As someone who exclusively hunts in thick wooded areas these are the first two guns that come to mind.
Marlin 1895 45-70, because there is nothing like a big hoss lever gun.

I also love to take my Ruger Mini 30 on deer hunts, have yet to shoot anything with it yet.

I'd get an 18" barreled .308 like a Gunsite Scout.

It's called a 12 gauge, 3 inch magnum 00 buckshot at 30 yards is a dead deer. Keep it simple!

The .30-30 is a wonderful idea. Look at the skinner peep sight page. Recommend finding an older 336 with the little JM stamp on the barrel. That will be money. I also have a .35, .45/70, .30-06, .270, 12 gauge slug gun with ghost ring sights, so I have a bunch of options but I love the .30-30 most.

I'm doing the same thing this weekend. The place I'm hunting has thick woods with bottoms loaded with acorns and they rent seeing much activity on the food plots and feeders yet. I've got a sneaky spot that I've killed a few times in already.

I'm using my 20GA 3" slug hands-rifle with rifled barrel over my 45-70 handi-rifle. I killed three deer in Illinois last year at this time within 50 yards and was amazed and the carnage that ensued.

I have a Marlin 336 in 35Rem, one of my favorites to hunt with, usually the one that goes with me in the woods when tracking, or scouting.
