(what? we haven't had one in a while.)

I actually am thinking about it. My land in Bienville Pa. has got a lot of flooded timber thanks to the damn beavers that just wont die no matter how many I trap. Hit me as a real fun way to get around back there and see what is and what isn't flooded now. Carrying that heavy pirouge though just seemed like too much of a chore. I wouldn't use it as religious as some of ya'll. Any ideas on a good cheap yak?

They should rename this the kayak board

Put kayak into the search function and plenty will come up

cheap and light do not go together. if you want cheap, an OT Otter might do the trick. See them at Academy sometimes. I have a poke boat, which is perfect for what you are thinking of using it for, but it sure wasn't cheap.

My Ascend 12' is pretty light and one of the cheaper ones on the market.

Probably would be good getting around out there. You planning on duck hunting out of it? That'd be pretty badass too.

12' Ascend 56# $479

12' Poke Boat 28# $2,000

Yikes! They were about $1100 when I got mine years ago. You can go Kevlar for $2500 and 14#.

You can spend anywhere from $400 to several thousand on a kayak

It all depends on what you want and how much you want to spend. If you're just going to be paddling around some flooded timber, an Ascend or Pelican is all you will need

Ridiculous, that weighs less than my climber

wow, I've taken dumps that weighed more than that. I've been to the doctor and am now on medication for it, but still. The cheaper the better, but wont get destroyed too easily. Haven't thought about duck hunting out of it. Dad told me they used to do it out of pirouges, but that stoped when the recoil from a 3" magnum rolled the boat over.

56# is not bad, so you may as well go with the Ascend. It should have front and side handles that will allow you to drag or carry it with one hand. i had a nice bonus one year and bought the Poke Boat, otherwise I never would have paid that much for it.

I would go with a Eagle Run by field and stream or an Otter. Keep an eye on Craig's list and you can find good deals.

Thanks for the link. I'm seriously considering that one now. How hard would it be to paint it?

not hard. it would be ugly though. I've seen a few painted and they all looked terrible.
