and it's cool as hell LINK

Check what fish you want to see in the right side boxes then watch their patterns from the time they were caught to now.

It would be funny if one of the tracks went to a boat launch then started going down the highway only to end up in some dude's driveway.

Check out Delta the Redfish #LP223132

Suddenly, his track jumped all the way from the west side of the lake to the Rigolets, then back to the Causeway bridge. Maybe he was caught, took a boat ride, and was released at the bridge?

Haha. While that would be funny, other than the big open water sharks, tuna, and tarpon they are probably using acoustic telemetry not GPS. Meaning the fish has an acoustic transmitter surgically implanted into its body that transmits its signal underwater where a stationary receiver can pick it up. (There are also mobile receivers as well that can be used from a boat.) Locations of these receivers likely accounts for the fish jumping around on the map if it passes outside the range of one and then into the range of another.

If you want to look at shark tracks worldwide check out Ocearch.

I'm impressed with the number of bull sharks they've tracked in the lake as well.

I know of the girl that was the lead researcher on this project originally. She is a graduate student at LSU's school of coast and environment. At one point she was working on a oyster reef/trout project in Calcaseiu, but she had some serious problems and moved on to this one.

No shite though, I myself talk to Dr. Cowan at LSU about doing a masters with him and he described this project to me. Glad I didn't though, LDWF took over and started excluding the girl from some of the data and it turned into a pissing match.

But on a side note about the project, LDWF winded up taking over the project and I was part of the support crew that built some of the equipment. I just have one thing to say, I'm amazed that this project ever got started and made it this far. It seemed between the lack of transparency between LSU and LDWF and the misunderstanding of how buoyancy and currents affect things, this project was gonna drag out along time.

I'm guessing all the LSU tagged fish are the girls and LDWF did their own and gave the fish proper names.

I am friends with 2 prominent Lake Pontchartrain guides that volunteered for the tagging program, mostly with the lady you speak of.

I'm surprised to see redfish taking what seem like random trips straight across the lake and spending a lot of time in open water. Obviously there's probably a current or something there getting their attention. But you're talking 25+ miles of travel that I didn't realize they did so regularly. I figured they pretty much just spent their time cruising banks and chilling in the marsh.
