Cousin of mine has lived in Soldotna for the last 30 years or so.

Loves it up there, I doubt he'll come back down the lower 48.

Yeah, I'm not sure I can function normally down there anymore. Too many unwritten social rules I don't care for.

About 20 years ago, the oil company he works for asked him to consider a transfer to Odessa/Midland.

He and his wife flew down, stepped off the plane, took a look around and said, "Take us back to Alaska".

I've never been there, but I hear it's pretty bad.

Yeah, they diverted a run I did up there because of critters being in the path.

Yeah, it would generally be the opposite of Alaska. With the exception of the North Slope, I suppose.
