I've got all my (terrible) justifications in order and found several good used options. I would be moving from a 2017 RAM 1500 2WD that I bought brand new.

Does anyone own a Tundra that would advise me to steer clear?

Anyone have a Ram and made it to 200K miles with no major issues?

I'm about to pay to have the standard RAM/Hemi exhaust problem fixed. At that point, I can either sell it/trade it with a clear conscience.....or sink a little money into it with some functional upgrades and ride it out for another couple years. 96K miles as of today.

Make sure the wires don't have soy in the coatings or the rats will eat them.

on my 3rd tundra and had a tacoma before the tundra. zero issues, have traded them in around 170k miles with very little maintenance. I know folks that have driven them to 250k miles. the most recent is a '19 so not sure about the new model tundra.

I have a 2018..... like it.... don't love it like I used to. Cold start issues. Wire issues. Don't really feel like it's as "rugged" as they make it out to be.
Not sure any other companies make a better truck though.

HA! it has certainly been totally nuts. I've found several 2020 and 2021 very well equipped w/ less than 30K miles for between $40-45K.

Yes, 225,0000 miles I had to change the clutch on the cooling fan. Amazing truck. 275,000 miles the water pump went out. Those were the only two thing that went wrong that were not completely my fault. This truck did a lot of towing and went down thousands of miles of crappy gravel roads. It was a 2009 with the 4.7 V8 and 3.55 rear end. My current Ram has the hemi and 3.21 rear axle. 60,000 miles zero issues.

I had 4 buddies not buy them again. They all went GM or Ram. They all disliked the interior and horrible fuel economy. Also, there are no front tow hooks on the new Tundra's.

Can you bump up your budget to make it to a 2022? Might as well get the new body style.

I was hesitant going with a truck with a brand new motor but I have a 2023 with the twin turbo hybrid and absolutely love it. I went from a f150 eco boost and definitely like this motor more (only 5k miles on it so far though). The interior and entertainment system is top notch as well.

I've considered it. The 'base' model SR's are actually pretty well equipped, and with 4wd can be had for about that same price. I've turned into an old man just default hating all things twin turbo v6 though.

I just haven't reconciled how one version of a truck can look quite nice while the other seemingly exact same truck can be so god-awful hideous.

Have been in a 2019 5.7 Tundra crew for over a year now and couldn’t be happier. It burns some gas, but when you hit the pedal it goes which I love about it. It doesn’t have a lot of the bells and whistles in the interior which I haven’t ever learned to miss, but something to consider if you want stuff like heated seats or zoned climate control.

Yea they offer so many different packages. Some color matched, some chrome, some chrome and color matched and then like 6 different trims. It is a bit ridiculous but I guess that makes it something for everybody. I personally really like the new body style.

I never drove the 5.7, I'm sure it was a beast. But this i-force max twin turbo will scream. 0-60 in 6 seconds. I was fine with it because I liked my eco boost so I was fine with a v6 and I kind of trust Toyota to make a quality product. You just don't hear about motor troubles with any Toyotas.

Might be worth test driving. But the 2021 are a great looking truck too.

If you can tolerate dated interior and meh fuel mileage, it's a pretty bulletproof platform now.

I've had an 08,12 and 17 Tundra. The 08 and 12 were awesome vehicles with zero issues. The 17 had the Cam Tower leak that is very popular. Big price tag to have it fixed although Toyota paid for half the repair. It was way out of warranty with 140,000 miles on it and it surprised me that they chipped in, but they said they would since I had purchased 10 Toyota products previously. Very good customer service. The 2022 and newer ones are crap. I've since handed my 2017 down to my son and purchased a 2021 Sierra. 60,000 miles on it and it's only given me some minor issues. The GMC is an upgrade in interior and fuel mileage.

Not sure how many 4WD Nissan Titan XD's we have at work, but it's enough to qualify for a fleet account. We have NEVER had one of these go in the shop - for anything.

Plus, I drive an Armada, as do two of my daughters-in-law. Grandson drives a Frontier. Granddaughter drives a Titan. Wife drives a Murano. One son drives a Pathfinder, other one drives a Maxima. NONE of these have ever gone in the shop.

My 21 Crewmax 5.7 is rolling like a caddy. I had a 17' GMC with that crap transmission, then a 19 Ram Longhorn that was great. My Tundra is my favorite truck though. It has all the comforts, reliability and still feels like a truck.

I also neglected to mention earlier that Toyota does not want to hear about issues on their vehicles.... especially once the warranty has run out. VERY unhappy with their customer service. It's a long story and I think I may have posted it last year when it happened, but basically it was a common issue that they knew about yet still hadn't produced a recall for my year model and it was about a $1000 fix.

My 2018 Nissan has never seen the shop either. I am rough with it also.
