I am new to the fishing world and I am wondering what are some things I should definitely get for a bait and tackle set up. I have only ever been freshwater fishing, use an open face reel, and I fish in south louisiana. Please help me out, good people of the OB.

Jig heads, 30# for leaders, weighted corks(some people don't use them) decent hooks(2/0-4/0), long needle nose and a small first aid kit.

Buzzbaits, Devils Horse, Zoom Lizards and baby brush hogs, a couple of spinnerbaits, a couple of jigs with Zoom speed craws for trailers, Zoom Fluke...

Depends on if you are fishing ponds, the river, sloughs, etc.

Bass, bream, catfish?

I mostly fish ponds and rivers for bass, bream, and catfish. I am headed out to the Dulac area this weekend with a buddy. I guess ill be looking for specs, reds, etc.

I'll add to mine: slide weights, topwater lures and of course you choice of soft plastic to go on the aforementioned jig heads(1/4).
