Hey guys....my son has finally gotten big enough for a 20 gauge. Want to get him a user friendly semi-auto. We may hunt birds once a year so not looking to spend an arm and leg.

Any suggestions on who may have best selection?

My son has the tristar semi auto

I think I gave 279 at academy for it during a sale

Sounds like what you need considering it won't be used too often

Santa brought mine little boy a Franchi Affinity compact. We haven't shot it yet but it feels really good.

Once a year hunting...take a look at the Remington Express...Don't know if available in semi-auto though...nice youth gun for the price...

Since being bought out -- yep. Big time, compared to pre-buyout quality.

If that is your judgement of quality, you must love hi-pernt and the other really shitty yet reliable guns.

Got my son a Hatsan Escort. Adjustable stock and short barrel with choke tubes. It sells in the upper 400 range, but is a sweet little gun so far.

Oh great wizard of oz...PLEASE try to tell me WHY Remington is crap in your opinion.

Oh, i'll take a reliable pump anyday over a overpriced semi-auto all day long...

I'm listening.....

Newer remington 870 expresses (post 2000ish I believe) are made with cheaper guts, cheaper wood, and lower quality fit and finish vs the older 870 express models. Not saying your gun is crap, but I assume that's what he is talking about.

I've got an older one and have shot friends' newer ones and the quality difference is apparent. All that being said, my friends with newer ones haven't had any reliability issues and hunt them hard. I bought a pump to take a lickin and keep on kicking so if the one you have does that, there's nothing to complain about or scoff at

The Wingmasters are still made with the higher quality components fwiw as are the 1100s.

Newer autoloaders and even some older models (1100, original A5, several models of Berettas and Benellis) are extremely reliable and you can get into a good quality one for not much more than a new 870 or Nova so I'm not sure where the "overpriced" part comes into play unless you're talking about people who choose to pay extra for the bells and whistles.
