Well, a brain shot w/ a 55 gr or 62 gr will kill an elk as well, but that doesn't make the 223 a good elk gun.
The question for the OP is what type of hog hunting does he want to do? High tech w/ suppressors, thermal imaging scopes.....(300 BO); deep woods hunting w/ quick shots (30-30, 45/70, 444 Marlin or other "brush busting" type rounds in a quick handling lever action); stand, safari or stealth hunting (any of the usual deer hunting calibers in an accurate rifle or handgun)?

I'm a lever carbine fan.
I'd have a lever action .44 mag with a 2-7 scope if I wanted a designated hog gun.

I've seen .357 mag/ .44 mag lever actions be very, very effective on a hog problem.

My 9mm pistol has killed 7 this summer. I only take it instead of a .22 because I hate carrying a rifle around if I don't have to and because I couldn't hit my computer screen from the keyboard with the .22 revolver.
