That is really cool! I can't wait to see the finished product. What made you decide to build one yourself?

Nice. You can't beat a good ole wood pirogue.

I had one built 5 or so years ago by a guy here in the Acadiana area. One man, 11 ft pirogue. I've abused the shite out of it and its still going strong.

Been building them over 40 years. This is for a good cause at that. It is help a fellow outdoorsman and it is good medicine for me.

Oh, as y'all can see, the wife was over looking me telling me to take a break.

Very, very cool. You're making me want to build one. How much do you think the whole operation costs?

Around $175. shite went thru the roof. I will be building a second one just to get some of my money back. So, after all is done for Josey, if someone wants one, I will build it

a few questions:
how critical is temp when working with that glue?
do you glue, clamp, nail, and leave clamp till glue sets at the bow/stern?

Very critical. Has to be at 70F or above for it to set.

Yes. There is a lot of stress at that point. The nails I'm using are ring shank. They lock in and never back out.

Lookin good, I built a couple about 15 yrs ago and really liked them. I built a small one at first, but was too narrow and prone for my clumsy arse to flip it. The next one was 16' long and 30" wide with 14" sides. It weighed about 75 lbs and was the best of both worlds, (light and stable with). Good luck with it.

This one is 14' and the bottom widest point will be 26". Sides are 11". This boat will hold an easy 1,000 lbs.

Now, a pirogue for me, I like a 24" bottom with 9" sides and 13' for two people.

Very interested in your build. Surprised to see how fast you are building it and its relatively low cost.

Thanks for updating pics

It takes about 8-10 hours if the weather/temp is right. But for me now, it is taking a bit longer. I catch hell big time bending over. That takes the breath out of me.

Passing up duck hunting today so I can finish it. Besides, were I hunt, there is no water and I don't feel good enough to travel any distance.

Josey, how you feeling? Hope you been having some "good days".

Myself, I just went thru a couple of those "bad days" due to fluid weight. Got it back under control now.

As far as the northern boys, they ain't never seen a true pirogue the way there are suppose to be built.
