Preferably between I-49 and Arnaudville . 3rd year hunting this area and seeing bucks with does this early. Any of you hunt down that way? I still think the full moon will put rut in full swing but it’s 2.5 weeks away. Last year the most activity I saw was Dec 17-28 but they were not w does this early.

Everyone that I know that hunts the area always talks about Christmas Day so I’m guessing your original dates are right. Wouldn’t surprise to see some young guys already scent checking does

Moon phase has nothing to do with the rut. In that area, you're looking at Christmas Day into the new year as the rut. 8 believe it was Dave Moreland that said the rut in that area, including Thistlethwaite and Sherburne, is timed so that fawns are dropped after the spring floods from the rivers. With the levee systems we have now, high water probably doesn't affect most of those deer, but the breeding periods remain the same as always.

Don’t hunt there but if it was me I would focus on those same dates again. If you are going to hunt that same place start keeping a journal or log of mature bucks seen or killed each year. I would be willing to bet that you see a trend around the same dates year to year.

You will start seeing scrapes and rubs in about a week. Will see a few young ones cruising Mid December but thats still pretty early. Prime is usually Christmas-1/10 with new years always being the best time for me.

Yea seeing rubs and scrapes now. Along with some light fighting. This area is not linked to thistlewaite or sherbune. Moon phase does have something to do with the rut according to most hunters and many articles. Dec 20 next full moon. Makes sense.
