I'm trying to decide between these two in 9mm for CC. If yall have either why did yall pick one over the other? They seem very similar so it may just be a preference for how it feels in my hand.

Price is not an issue and looking to add night sights immediately. Specifically looking at the Trijicon HD for either one.

I really think I would prefer the grip safety on the XDS over the thumb safety on the Shield.

I'm still split about 50-50 on which route to go and just curious of yall input.

I got the Shield with the thumb safety. Alot of people on here do not like thumb safties on a cc, but it is what it is. The XDS is nice, but felt heavier in my hand. I handled about 6 or 7 single stacks and a glock 26 before making my decision, and may have gone with a Bersa, had it come with the thumb safety.

It's preference. Imo, the safety is just 1 more thing to worry about.

I used the safety when going in and out of the holster and moving it around the house. Once it was where it needed to be, safety was switched off.

I carry at 5 o'clock, and can't see when I holster a gun. A safety is just assurance to me that I won't accidentally snag the trigger on something and shoot myself in the leg

Shield here, with the safety. Like Hammertime mentioned, I use it when I deem necessary. It's an option to use when you want it.

I have a shield. I'm just not a fan if the grip safety on the XD. Don't know why as I have 3 1911s but I don't like it. Not a fan of the way XDs shoot either

I walked into jims last week to buy either a shield or a xds in 9mm and ended up buying a compact instead of a subcompact. It just felt better to me like I had better control over the gun. The difference in size isn't that great other than thickness. I also like that i have 12 in the mag rather than 7.

Go to the range and shoot them both in the caliber you want is my advice.

I love the two prong grip and trigger safety, but then the .32 I inherited and learned to shoot on had a similar style grip safety.

You could ask the same question about carry holsters from 20 people and get twenty different responses, it's all about comfort and confidence.

Have both. You can't go wrong with either. It really comes down to personal preference.

I own both. The Shield seems to be a little more comfortable to carry for me.

As far as night sights, I would call a couple of guns stores and ask if they charge extra to put night sights on XDs/XDm. I had two stores tell me that they charge $50 extra because the dovetails are extremely tight and its really hard to get the sights off.

I recently went through my own search for a CC pistol.
Watched and read tons of reviews, including those two.
Got a Kahr CM9---great gun!

I'd go back and get the smaller subcompact xdm, but I love my xds and my Xdm. About to prolly get one more for the wife piece (NO PICS)

I've got a Shield with no safety and appendix carry. I like the thrill of possibly shooting my junk off.

Did they fix that horrendous trigger on the Shield?

I'd never shot one before. Just got a Shield 40 before Christmas and the trigger is a bit "gritty" on the take up and the break is pretty heavy. Took be about 300 rounds to get used to it.

I will be putting an apex trigger kit in it soon. Hearing great things about it.
