I was at the range with a friend last weekend. He recently purchased a Springfield 1911 compact 45, I'm not sure of the model. It was a nice weapon but a little hard to hold on to.

The plastic box it came in had a piece of red tape on it theat said, "not legal in California". What's up with that? Got to be clip capacity right? His clip was a 5 plus 1.

I definitely won't talk you out of it. I bought an XD 9mm full size in November and love it. My buddy shoots the XD 40 and loves that too. Luckily for me Springfield was running a promotion at the time and they gave me 3 free mags

I have the xdm 3.8 compact .40 and I love it. What's making you go with the xd over the xdm?

I would imagine the standard size being a little bulky.

The main thing I didn't like about my XD service model as a cc gun was the bulkiness/thickness of the frame. The compact version will still be as thick in the frame/grip as the full size version, albeit 0.5" shorter in grip length. OTOH, there are a lot of folks that aren't trouble by this and cc the XD; maybe that'll be you!

UPDATE:

Just got home and emptied a mag in the backyard before the sun went down. Ended up going with the XDM .40 compact and couldn't be happier.

ETA:

and with extended mag:

WWB (winchester white box) ammo can sometimes fail to feed (ftf ). If it happens swap for some Remington. No problems. Love my. 45

Just bought a box of 100...

Guess I'll find out soon enough. Thanks for the heads up.
