Planning on going to pick up an XD compact .40 after work today. Anybody want to try to talk me out of it?

I've read nothing but good things about them for the most part. I held one the other day, and it felt great in hand. I just figured some OBers might have some additional info.

ETA: The compact is a bit short on the grip with the standard mag, but the extension mag makes it much more comfortable. I think that's what sold me on it. The kit it comes with now is pretty legit, too.

I have one and I like it. Not sure if it's the one I will want to carry, but it's a great truck / home gun.

The green ones look badass. How much are you paying for it?

$540 (it's insurance money I'm playing with, so that's not a huge deal)

I've really got up to $950 or so to play with...

You can get some really nice 1911's for $950...

Or an XD and a nice shotgun or something.

I know. I thought about that real hard for a long time, but I just don't want to pay for the .45 ammo. A 1911 will be the next gun I get after this one though.

The Springfield XD in 40 S&W is a FINE gun. In fact, I bought the regular size one for my first concealed carry gun. Unfortuntely, I didn't cc it very long before realizing I didn't really like it as a cc gun. The XD is now my main "house gun." I really like it's feel in my hand over the Glock. You could do a lot worse than the XD.

I would imagine the standard size being a little bulky. I plan on carrying the compact at times, but it will primarily be a "truck gun." I promise it will be on my person if I'm out in Memphis in the future, though.

I'm not a huge XD fan... I don't think they are terrible, but there are better options in the price range. They also have some questionable quality on the internal parts. I remember when the HS2000 (which is now the XD) was first imported into the US and it about a $350 gun. Springfield suddenly buys the rights to it and slaps their name on it and the price jumps $200.

FWIW I tend to agree... I mean it'll get the job done, but I stick with either 9mm or 45.

Have the XD9 compact, love it! Don't think you can go wrong with any of them in the XD or XDM family.

Good Gun. Reliable. It does snap your wrist a bit, but it's manageable.

If you are really willing to spend that much, you, might as well move on up to the Springfield 1911.

Again, I just see myself spending way too much on ammo in the long run with a .45

40 isn't much cheaper.... If you're worried about ammo cost go with a 9mm
