When I was a kid we used to always fish the Rigolets. We always caught a bunch there, but that has been many years ago.

One tip: Always keep reeling in even if you think the fish has gotten off your line. Specs will run toward you, and the minute you stop reeling and give them a little slack, they use the opportunity to shake the hook. Good luck.

that lake is a tough nut to crack if you are new to specs. i'd suggest a different area if possible, some of which are not much father away than Lake P and you can launch at the same landings as you would as if fishing the lake.

If trying to learn the lake keep in mind there are periods the fish are thicker than others. You can catch trout there all year but it's a lot easier at certain times.

First off watch the water temperature once it hits 60 they will start to show up. Normally this is the last week of March first week of April in Slidell the peak being around tax time. Then around the first or second week of May they show up on the Causeway normally a round the full moon this will last until mid June then it's done.

In the fall they show up in the grass beds first then the bridges again normally in an east to west pattern. They are normally on the causeway about the World Series. Once it gets real cold this normally shuts off but not always you just have to see.

Sometimes when it's cold you have to troll about 2-3mph but you will have to try it out.

Not sure if what I have said is what the "pros" say but after 30 years of fishing out there that's my rough estimates on how to. Also agree with guides it's technique fishing out there on the bridges it's hard to learn it on your own.

Agree. Woke up early yesterday morning and checked the short term hi-res models and radar for hopedale and was clear. Had nothing better to do so hooked up boat and made a solo trip out there. Drove through rain in new Orleans and chalmette. Stopped at new race track on Paris and started pouring but looked at radar and showed nothing east of there. Pulled up to Breton sound and only had 5 trucks in lot and sun was actually breaking through although wind was ripping. Had wipe caps in mrgo, stump, and muscle bay. Fishing was tough with strong winds going against tide but still managed a limit in a couple hours. Only got about 8-10 rain drops while out there and even a little sun. Of course left when I could see the storms building and drove all the way home in the rain.
