Made around 18 hunts. Marsh, ponds, and lakes in Raceland,Dularge and bourg. Total of 1 big duck. Only one we shot at was a female pintail. I saw more big ducks during teal season.
What in the frick is going on? Coldest weather in years and no ducks. Went in a 35 acre pond this morning and saw a handful of wood ducks and nothing else.

Someone talk me off the ledge!

I'm actually impressed based on what we saw Friday. I think there were more mergansers than grays.

The birds that are here have been here for a long time. There is a good bit of big ducks around but they're ganged up, educated, and they're not moving around much. If you're not finding them on your lease, hunt public land.

eta: also have been filling straps with teal the last couple of hunts. Probably 1/2 big duck to teal ratio.

And in what area of the state are you seeing these ganged up groups of big ducks?

cold weather is a fallacy, while it does help. Those ducks are heading south eventually anyway.

Considering OP’s thread title says Southeast LA, that was the implication.

Right on cold weather......... It's prolonged snow and ice - ie lack of food

They mistve left a ton of grain in the fields this year up north

Either that or the arkansas nela missouri droughts shifted the flyway further west than normal

If he's hunting where I think he is, there are pockets of birds. But they are stale and holed up and when disturbed, probably won't be back.

I'm not going to do that to a man. If he volunteers it, great.

All I’ve killed this season is Bluebills, Cans, and Buffleheads

Couldn’t go this weekend because the river was frozen

I’ll go the next three weekends though

ETA: I’ve stopped shooting at Canadians, I already have about 10 in the freezer.
