I disagree. The sea seems to be more than manageable and you have no idea how far out he is. With sea tow (just a guess) and an epirb, he is easily brought in if he should have any problems.

Congrats to him, but he is a moron for trying to go out in the GOM in a 20' skiff..Even with an epirb!

Way too many risk for my blood. Kids and family come frost, not my stupid ideas of sword fishing alone!

i've never understood the OB-consensus view that being outa' the sight of land in something less than a 30' triple-powered cc is "dangerous".

What point are you trying to make? There isn't anything about what he's doing that is unsafe. Unsafe for you, maybe unsafe for me, but for someone with experience this is not a huge deal.

The single engine argument is silly. Too many people say singe engines are dangerous off shore all the while only having one fuel source that both motors share.

Well, we have 2 separate fuels tanks....

Exaggerate much? In my younger years, we would take a single engine 22' bay boat out about 12 miles. I wouldn't do it these days, though. Aside from being beat to shite, distant wakes can interact with each other or the seas and cause large crests out of seemingly manageable seas. Are you definitely going to die? No, but it's absolutely a much larger risk in a 20 foot boat.

A 22 foot bay boat can not even walk down the street in a Panga's neighborhood when it comes to rough water capability. The two boats are not really compatible.

A shitty helmsman can turn an offshore tournament boat into a submarine in a mild following sea. This guy has the experience as well as a boat specifically designed to handle those types of conditions. Mush brains, right?

Dude needed a kill bag so he could ice that fish.

ETA: That panga looks to ride rough as shite wasn't even rough and he was slamming pretty good. That guy is also nuts for doing that kind of fishing solo.

I know nothing about them, but Gaston loves them, so they are probably the worst possible option. Plasti-dip or not.

When was the last time you saw a guy offshore in a 20ft boat??? This dude is absolutely insane.

I must be insane as well. And a lot of other people I know are insane. When the weather is right I won't hesitate to run 20 miles offshore in my 20 ft cc with a single engine.

While I have only been choppered to a rig to do a surveillance equipmemt install, I was amazed to see what I would refer to as a crawfish boat being fished from.

If they made it in that, I would think a boat designed with open water in mind can do it.

Bingo. The panga is so far superior to a bay boat in open water it isn't even fair to compare. The most extreme survival stories involve pangas. Check this out, Panga Story.

The sword fishing dude was a regular panga forum contributor. If I could have afforded it, I would have bought his boat.

Dude, those are pics of drug runner boats ditched in the surf after offloading drugs. The surf will roll any boat left there to drift.

This for sure and yes with 25 years of offshore fishing. Panga boats were on my short list of a new offshore boat.
