Have a trip booked opening week in NW Oklahoma. My buddy backed out on me. I've already paid our deposits. He is giving me the $ for his half but question is would you go on a hunt 10.5 hours away by yourself?
I can reschedule to next year but we are planning a cabo trip and I can't swing both.
I've asked everybody I know to fill the spot with no luck.
Anybody made trips out of state solo?

I have hunted Kansas for pheasants a couple of times with just my dogs. It was a nice change to have some alone time
on the trip. I enjoy both with and without friends...

I enjoy going on adventures by myself. I've solo camped in the NW Territories. I've hiked back into wilderness areas for turkeys. I'm thinking about doing a solo duck hunt to Saskatch in a year or two.

made a solo 10 day early season hunt for antelope and mule deer north of Casper Wyoming, enjoyed it throughly but the extremes from freezing cold and windy mornings to blistering hot mid day back to freezing cold late afternoons was unforgettable...

what kind of hunting are you doing and is it a guided trip or no?

I do a pretty good bit of outdoor activity by myself and enjoy it. I could see where it would not be for everyone, though. It really depends on the nature of the trip.

Personally, I wouldn't. That's a helluva ways away to make a solo hunt. See if you can reschedule or keep looking for a replacement and get your buddy some of his money back. It's pretty obvious that he would prefer to be with you on the hunt.

NW Oklahoma.

Where in nwok? I live in okc and if nothing else might be able to meet up and hang out or as a backup if something goes bad. I'm a baton Rouge native, lsu alum and also spent 4 years in Shreveport before moving to okc last July.

It's a bowhunting trip north of Cheyenne. There will be a guide there with me for anything I need. I just would be making the drive by myself.

10-4. Wide open country out that far west. Just whitetail or possibly targeting mulies?

I make solo backpacking trips all the time. Not that I don't want company but I'd rather go solo than not at all.

I say go for it.

I wouldn't hesitate to make a hunt like that on my own. Sure having a buddy is great, but I really enjoy the outdoors alone.

bro, NW Oklahoma is not North of Cheyenne....

I actually used to antelope hunt in the Cheyenne area and can say that it is a fascinating area to hunt because it is like nothing you will find in the south. I wouldn't do it alone without a guide because there are lots of things that can put you in danger, if you are not experienced with hunting in that climate and terrain.

That said, I would not hesitate to drive that far alone, if you are interested in doing the hunt...just pace yourself and plan to stay a night or two along the way during the drive.

Yea I guess I was thinking Cheyenne was farther north than that. The property borders the Canadian river from what I understand. So basically western oklahoma
