Judging by your feet, you're short; it takes a man to swing an axe. Buy a splitter.

I burn a LOT of wood. Got a heat pump, but I just like wood heat much better. For years and years I split with a wedge and go-devil. Bout 4 years ago I just went ahead and bought a 37 ton splitter from Tractor Supply. Wish I had done that years and years ago. That hydraulic wood splitter is the best investment I ever made. Well, except for the prescription the doc wrote me for that Viagra...

I usually go through at least 6 pickup truck loads a winter. That's a long bed and heaped over. Just came in from draggin some logs outta the mountain with the tractor and cuttin it up to lengths. Pourin down rain and I sure got wet, but it's supposed to hit 14 above Tuesday night. And I know it's gonna get cold up your way, too.

An well placed axe we'll split just about anything. Look for the natural split/crack in the wood and hit it like you would hit an OT 10.

A maul is the best way to go if you aren't using a splitter.
