Hello everyone,

Could some of you help me identify this snake. Unfortunately, I ran over it in my driveway, never saw it, and have no idea what kind of snake it is.

I live in Jefferson County, Alabama, Trussville, in ridge and valley terrain at about 1200 ft.

Thanks for any assistance.

Rat snake. And sorry I told my son that you're a douche before I read that it was an accident.

Umm, I have an opinion, but I hesitate to create any kind of panic in the hill country of Alabama.

I don't think so - this snake is not dead.

This is what is known as a "ghost snake" If you look closely at the head shot pic of the snake, you will find that you are being hypnotized/mesmerized by it into thinking it is dead. All the while it is planning an attack that will come when your guard is down, perhaps late in the night as it slithers into your dreams to deliver it's deadly poison.

Though the injury was unintentional, the OP should be afraid, very afraid.

Some of them are a bit nippy, but I don't hold it against them.

I'm in clay, and have one of those ...and... one of these that have visited my back yard.
Both are rat snakes, as has been pointed out.

Some of you must be just like me. You know there is a picture of a snake in the post and you open it anyway.
