19 mags offer 15rds at the same length as the 10rd mags with grip extensions. Virtually no penalty for weight either.

Just to name a few...

Those guns are definitely a good place to start. My biased vote goes to the XDs, very comfortable, and crisp in my opinion.

just outside your price range, the sig p938 would be another great gun to look at as well, very light, smooth, crisp trigger. It's definitely on my list of guns I plan on purchasing in the future.

I'm infatuated with the Colt Mustang, just not sure about going with a .380. Anyone have one in their collection? I also thought about getting a Walther, since I love my PPQ.

While I can't recommend .380 for modern times, I had a Walther PPK that was a sweet shooter. I would recommend it 100x over the Mustang. My first alternate choice would be the LCP.

But, really - if you want an automatic in this class, get a Kahr in 9mm, either the CW9 or PM9 - depending on your budget.

The Sig P238 is exactly the same design as the Colt Mustang if you miss that design so much. They're pretty easy to find.

I actually would advise the Kahr CW380 over the LCP. Has a much better trigger and actually has sights. It's also about the exact same dimensions so there really is no compromise.

I defer to bapple, then. I have no familiarity with the CW380, but Kahr makes the most impressive pocket pistols around.

(But, I still say go with the CW9 or PM9, because that is a very small compromise to carry 124gr HST, which is an order of magnitude more effective than anything you can find in .380 - which is problematic as it is.)

The LCP is still very capable. It's a good gun just with some limitations.

I agree that 124gr HST has some arse behind it compared to 380.

I actually do a comparison of the 9mm and 380 Kahrs on my YouTube channels. I'm using a substitute camera at the time to bear with the shitty lighting:
