Looking to upgrade from my Taurus PT111 to something else. And pros or cons to either the Sig or S&W?

I'm down to get the 9mm or .40 cal versions.

The Shield is one of the best pointing guns I've ever shot

P250 doesn't have a great trigger in my opinion

I asked the guy in Gander to show me how to disassemble the shield for me and it henever really fully succeeded. Kinda turned me off to it. He mentioned the Sig is very similar. Plus, the side release was really difficult to press. I guess that's just because it's new.

Everyone here will say the 9mm.

If possible I would rent each gun at the shooting range and try them out. Then decide for yourself.

To disassemble the shield you flip a lever on the the frame while the slide is pulled reward and the slide comes off. Remove the spring and the barrel from the slide and you're done.

He was showing me that you had to depress a yellow pin or something for the slide to move forward.

Just like every other plastic gun, but you turn the lever down instead of pushing it down

I had a hard time getting that side release to move period when my Shield was new. Once I messed around with it a couple of times it either worked loose a little or I got better at doing it the right way.

I never talked to anyone about breaking it down before I cleaned it the first time. Like everything else I don't know about, I searched the internet and found a video. After I broke it down the first time, I was amazed how how simple the pistol itself is.

I bought it to CC but I haven't carried it at all. Really haven't shot it enough to feel comfortable carrying it. It's the first pistol of any kind I've ever owned.

I've shot maybe 800 rounds through it in five months. That's going to the range six times. I have become more proficient with it, but still have a ways to go to feel confident enough to take a CC class.

The P250 is a total piece of shite. After we got broken into, a few days later we realized ours was stolen and the whole gun department was high giving for weeks since it was finally gone

If it really is that simple, I may look at it again. Academy has the Shield 9mm for $60 cheaper than Gander.

I live in Ruston, but drove to Shreveport for mine. Academy wanted about $460.00 for it then. I got it at Ron's in Bossier City for right at $400.00 tax included.

You should be paying $399.99 for a shield at a local shop, not a dollar move. $350 on Internet, $330 if you get an online sale.

It takes down just like most semis. Lock slide rearward, rotate takedown lever (on shield, 90deg clockwise so that it points downward), ease the slide forward, pull trigger, remove slide assembly. Captured recoil spring and barrel pop right out

Is $369 at academy a good price? It's the no safety version.

^^

If you want a pistol that's easy to field strip, w/o any tools, look at Glocks. They also happen to be the most reliable handgun you can buy. (The M&Ps, most SIGs H-Ks, some Rugers and some Berettas are also top-tier in reliability).

The small little yellow tab was designed to prevent the user from having to pull the trigger to disassemble it. But pulling the trigger is much easier than having to flip down that lever.

And why are you comparing the P250 to the Shield? They are in completely different categories. One is a compact double stack 9mm and the other is a subcompact single stack 9mm.

I agree with Carson that the 250 has a horrible trigger. Just do yourself a favor and get the Shield.

But I will say if you don't plan on carrying the gun, it would make a lot more sense to get a full sized.

Made the purchase tonight. Got the shield in .40 cal. Had to buy the display since it was the last one in either version. Oh well, I'm sure it'll be a fine hand gun.

If you're going with the shield get the 9mm. I love mine. I had a .40 cal as well but had malfunctions every 30 or so rounds.

Only problem with a stock shield is the trigger is crap in my opinion. You need to put an apex trigger job on it. They also have a new 9mm performance center shield. It's a little pricier but it comes with a ported barrel and enhanced trigger. If you don't mind the extra cost it is a superior weapon.

Edited: disregard everything above... You already bought the .40.
