So, if one who was not very familiar with the Shreveport area wanted to start fishing. Say he was an extreme novice, but has a fuctional boat and needs a weekend hobby.
What advice would you give him and where should he try first?
Just restored my grandpa's boat that I grew up fishing in, but haven't done any real (successful) freshwater fishing in years.
Here she is after 3 months of work. This boat and motor are 30 years old.

Boat looks awesome.
What are you targeting?
Looks like you launched out of RRSouth in that picture, pretty decent fishing around there.

I was going to suggest NOT going to the river until i saw this. Obviously fishing around the marina isnt dangerous, but travelling the river, you need some experience.
I would personally suggest Cypress lakes, i.e. Caddo. It's just really easy fishing.

Thanks for the link S14.
I took that pic on RR couple weeks ago. Launched at Stoner and went about 15 miles downriver to burn through a tank of gas with a little seafoam. I'm inexperienced at fishing, but not at boating.
I've been out on Cypress and west caddo wake boarding, but now that my boat is functional Id like to use it for it's actually purpose..
Just want to start with some brim/perch jerkin and get in to the bass once I figure out what the hell I'm doing.

Red River. Lots of fish, relatively easy to catch. In the summer , hit the rock jetty points and cuts with topwater and crank baits.

If you want to catch a bunch of 1-2lb. fish, go to the river and throw a drop shot on the rocks.
