Sounds like a shitty plan to me, why tear down and pack up 3 times in one weekend.

Little info would be camping is not allowed on west ship, and all 3 will be full of folks on a holiday weekend. Pick a spot and stick to it is my honest best advice, likely east ship as you wish to visit all 3.

This. I prefer to camp on Cat Island, because that's where I like to fish.

Start your fishing on the SE portion of the island. Smuggler's cove and surrounding will have plenty of boat traffic next weekend, but that's probably where you should start. Also, a lot have been caught on the East side, going a little farther North.

I don't think you can camp on Ship.

P.S. keep an eye out for sharks. Thick this time of the year if you are going to wade.

Pray for a 10mph wind. If the winds dies down, mosquitoes will carry your tent away. My brother once ended a camp out at 2am and came back in because the gnats were so thick his dog couldn't breath.

Prayers sent. You're gonna remember this trip, and not all the memories will be good ones. A fully enclosed screen tent is worth its weight in gold on those islands. The horse flies out there laugh at deet.

It's tough fishing but people catch. Live bait is sometimes the only way. Flounder gigging at night can be great since it's super shallow around most of the islands, which is another point, don't run your boat up on a sand bar.

I know that on Horn Island there is good red fishing on the south side off of the beach sorta. It's not really a beach with with mangroves. Over course that was before Katrina so it could be different.

One think to be aware of Horn Island and probably the others are patrolled by the National Marine Fisheries guys and they don't mess around. They will check you, even your camp ground. We were told that if they find you littering your campsite They will kick you off the island, even if it's night time. No empty bottles or trash anywhere except in a track bag or such.

Again that was before Katrina but you should check that out!

Would it make sense to bring a fogger out there for mosquitos. I don't know if that would even help

the gnats, flies and skeeters on those islands are mutants
only way to keep them off you is to not go

It's been years since I fished Cat Island, but I used to fish the western point, and the southern shore near that point. Not uncommon for big stuff to be crashing bait fish - probably small sharks or jacks. Also did okay just drifting (didn't have a trolling motor at the time) along the southern shore, just far enogh from shore to where the water was 3-4 feet deep. Seemed like we'd pick up a trout or two every time we drifted over the grassy areas on bottom. Also, the times I surf fished, the sand flies and stuff weren't bothersome as long as you were out in the water. Once you hit the beach they were everywhere though.

Are you familiar with the expression "pissing in the wind"?
