you didn't overpay on retail pricing. . .

Saharas are $80 new and Vendetta rods can be found anywhere from $40-100 depending on where you go. I think Academy had them recently on sale for around $50.

Vendettas are good rods though, and the Sahara is a very capable reel that will get the job done.

I have multiple vendetta rods and brought in plenty of 10+ lb reds with no issues. 4000 reel is big for my taste, but lots of people use that size for salt water fishing, so it'll do. I think you got a decent deal on the rod. I paid $90 a rod when I got my vendettas, but that was several years back. There are better rods at that price point though, and I'll be upgrading soon.

Like others have said, I would go exchange it for the 2500 or 3000. The 4000 is too big for my taste, casting that thing all day vs casting a smaller reel makes a big difference. But you can't go wrong with Shimano, I've never had a problem with any Shimano I have owned.

You didn't overpay, I dont get the hate for the Vendetta, sure rods break, I've had numerous break on a ton of different things, all differnt brands. I chalk it up to a bad blank and go get another one. Keep your receipt and exchange it at Academy.
I have 3 vendetta spinning rods and no issues, I do prefer the Villian for a casting rod though.
